The Rivers United of Port Harcourt administration has made threats to stop participating in any football-related events.
Rivers United, through its secretary, Ahmed Abdurrahman, wrote a letter dated May 2, 2024, addressed to the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The letter stated that the club sponsors, the River State government, are currently reviewing the club’s participation in all football-related matters due to the unfair treatment against the club.
Football Club, Port Harcourt is hereby notifying you that the sponsors of the team, the Rivers State Government is currently reviewing the club’s participation in all football related activities due to unfair actions always taken against the team despite its huge investment and contribution to the development of the game in Nigeria,” the letter read.
“Rivers United FC is by this letter withdrawing the earlier sent letter dated May 1, 2024 on the match timing for the 2024 Federation Cup, with the subject “Re-Rescheduled Federation Cup Match Round 64” without prejudice, Abdurrahman said in the letter also copied the Chief Operating Officer, Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL),” it added.
