In an early-morning sting operation on Thursday, agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Uyo Zonal Command apprehended eight alleged online scammers.
This was revealed by the anti-graft organization on Wednesday in a statement posted on its X handle.
It said that they were detained as a result of reliable information indicating their involvement in fraud.
The statement read, “Operatives of the Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, May 2, 2024, arrested eight suspected internet fraudsters in an early morning sting operation at Osong Ama Extension in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
“They were arrested following credible intelligence on their suspected involvement in internet fraud.”
It further read that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
“Items recovered from them include seven laptops; 13 smartphones; two wristwatches and one router,” the agency stated.
