The Government of Oyo State, on Thursday, demolished shops and kiosk at Ojoo market in the Akinyele Local Government Area of the state.
On the 5th of March 2024, News VEO reported that the state government issued a seven-day notice to owners and occupants of shanties, containers, kiosks, and other unlawfully erected businesses to leave the roadside areas or risk the full force of the law.
Chairman of the market, Muhdeen Ganiyu, fondly called Elewedu, however spoke to newsmen as the demolition was ongoing.
“The quit notice was too short. All executive members of all the affected markers will soon meet. So, I cannot say anything for now,” he stated.
Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Williams Akin-Funmilayo, who served as spokesperson for the State Government, confirmed the ongoing demolition exercise, according to The PUNCH.
“The State Governor, Seyi Makinde, had gone there personally to address them. The government will provide another place. That place is dangerous. And the new place is not far. Just at the front of the Barracks,” he said.
