The meeting between the National Assembly leadership and the Organized Labour have ended in deadlock.
The meeting was premised on stopping the planned indefinite strike by the Unions.
However, a resolution was never near, and that means the strike announced by the Labour Unions would go on as planned on Monday, June 3.
The outcome of the meeting was made known by Festus Osifo, Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
“The Senate President appealed to us to call off the strike. But we can’t sit here and call off the strike because we have others organs. We will take the appeals to our various organs.
“We don’t have the powers to call off the strike action. For now, the strike action will commence, while we discuss with our organs,” Osifo told newsmen after the meeting.
The meeting, presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House of Representatives Speaker Tajuddeen Abbas was also attended by top government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Budget and National Planning.
News VEO reported that the Aviation Unions have also complied with the strike order by directing their members to stop services at Airports across the federation.
