Hadi Abubakar Sirika, the former minister of aviation, refuted the federal government’s allegations of his alleged corrupt activities, which involved around ₦4.135 billion, on Thursday in the Federal Capital Territory’s High Court.
Along with his daughter Fatima, son-in-law Jalal Sule Hamma, and a company called Al Buraq Global Investment Limited, Sirika was arraigned before Justice Sylvanus Oriji.
After the six count accusations were read to them, the daughter and son-in-law likewise entered a not guilty plea.
They were put on trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on behalf of the federal government.
Following their denial of the fraud charges, their respective lawyers moved applications for their bail which was granted by the Judge.
Justice origin admitted the three defendants on bail in the sum of N100M and two sureties each in the like sum.
One of the sureties must have landed property with a certificate of occupancy issued by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and the other two must be law-abiding persons with verified residential addresses.
The judge ruled that the defendants could not leave the nation without the court’s specific consent.
Judge Oriji ruled that they would be detained in jail custody until the bail terms were completed if they were unable to fulfill them.
June 11 was fixed for trial of the defendants.
