A barrister and the deputy Publisher of Lawbreed Publication, Mrs Adejoke Layi-Babatunde has implored the federal government of Nigeria to invest highly on data analytics in order to prepare against future pandemics such as the covid 19 case of 2020.
She said this at the launch of her 10 chapter book titled ‘Whispers of Resilience: Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic and Living Mindfully’. Citing the case of the covid 19 pandemic, she stated that the developed countries who had proper data could easily track down the spread of the infection and also provide adequate treatment when needed.
She said, “Government needs to take note of data and how we can avoid the next pandemic because nobody knows when it will come. The last time there was a health crisis was 100 years ago.
“If we had put some things in place all over the world, the COVID-19 impact wouldn’t have been much as the healthcare was not properly taken care of.
“Government was not responsive enough. We didn’t plan. Our government was not there for us initially and even the local governments were not equipped. We were all running helter-skelter. We should just thank God that Africa was not so badly impacted.
“Our healthcare system is not great, even now, a lot of medical professionals are leaving the country,”
The book launch was attended by various notable individuals from various walks of life, during which some survivors of covid 19 shared their stories. One of the notable guest at the book launch, Chigozie Mbadugha, a Consultant Ophthalmologist and head of the Editorial Department, CambaBooks, also spoke during the event, while speaking she gave an insight into what the book is all about, she said, “Adejoke detailed the inventions that the desire to solve the problems and challenges that manifested during the pandemic produced and gave kudos to the inventors.
“The author has taken on the bold task of writing about a topic that some don’t dare to because some people would rather forget.
“I am glad this book will hit our shelves soon because I remember looking for literature about the Spanish Flu, which happened in 1918 and wondering why there was so little information about it until COVID-19 took the world by storm.
“She takes a philosophical stance about what really matters and what is really a priority for man when faced with an invisible enemy like COVID-19.”
