The President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association (PETROAN) has announced efforts to persuade the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to further reduce the price of Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) from ₦1030 per litre in Port Harcourt in the coming days.
In a strategic meeting held in Abuja on Friday, PETROAN’s National President, Billy Gillis-Harry, emphasized the association’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerians have access to quality petroleum products at more affordable prices across the country.
“One of the significant achievements in recent days is that PETROAN successfully advocated for a price reduction of petroleum products. Today, NNPCL has lowered their price to ₦1030, and we are hopeful and pushing for it to decrease even further. Our energy security is crucial, and this is why PETROAN has consistently championed the enhancement of in-country refining capacity. We are also at the forefront of those advocating for the naira-for-crude policy to boost domestic refining,” he stated.
Gillis-Harry assured Nigerians that the petroleum products trucked out from the Port Harcourt refinery on Tuesday were freshly refined and of high quality. He also highlighted the role of the Port Harcourt refinery, the Dangote refinery, and other emerging refineries in ensuring energy security for all Nigerians.
“I can assure you that PETROAN is working diligently to procure products from these sources, and we expect NNPCL prices to be lower than what we see today. You can count on us to keep advocating for this change. Currently, we have ramped up production to 650,000 barrels per day at the Dangote Refinery,” he added.
This announcement follows the recent commencement of crude oil processing and the truckout of petroleum products at the Port Harcourt Refinery by the NNPCL. On Friday, PETROAN updated that the ex-depot price for Premium Motor Spirit in Port Harcourt stood at ₦1030 per litre.
